Random Thought

I wish I was a "homemaker." Random huh? I just got done organizing all my craft stuff and its so funny that I say I love scrapbooking and such but I honestly haven't REALLY scrapbooked since high school...I've been buying stuff and saving mementos and I have pix galore but I have yet to finish a scrapbook! I was also hanging up some clean clothes that we don't dry and it made me think about how I don't really know how to iron. I mean I can do jeans and t-shirts that are simple but stuff with pleats, creases, etc? No way. Then that made me think about a convo with Nana a few weeks ago where I was talking about how I wish I knew how to cook, bake, decorate, sew, etc like normal women do. My mom wasn't big into that stuff and Nana said that's because she never was into thtat stuff and apparently neither was Nana's mom. I guess its not in our blood. I wish I could do stuff like Adri's mom- now that's a homemaker- who works full time as well!! I also wish I were a neat freak. Yeah messes bother me but not enough to make me want to clean lol. The only time I want to clean is when people are coming over. Then I thought about an email from MaMa Patsy about women in my generation not knowing what aprons are and attached to it were patterns for these cute 50's aprons with pockets and ruffles-adorable! I would so wear an apron but nowadays the only aprons you see say stuff like "Kiss the Cook" or "BBQ King" on them. If I only knew how to sew...So yes, random.

More Exciting News

Well UTT has agreed to let me have a supervisor with a masters degree even if they aren't from a university or have their PDAS certification!!!!!! This opens up my options immensely!

Friday night we went bowling with the Barreto's where I was totally off my game! Seriously- like an 89 the first game and 41 the next!! WORST EVER!! After we were done my hubby and I just went home and played cards on our patio and had a few drinks. We both won 3 lost 3 go figure!

Saturday we were bums all day because Matt's had this head cold for like a week and is miserable. We've tried regular sudafed, sudafed pe, tylenol cold multisymptom (the blue liquid), etc. That night though we were going to go meet up with the Barreto's at a medieval fest in Bad Kissingen (don't you love it?) but they called us when we were 10mins away to say it was all shutting down! Bah. So Matt and I drove around town looking for open restaurants, both of us REALLY wanting Chili's and to be in the country of 24 hour drive throughs, and we finally found a restaurant up the hill from us that was open. They were like a greek/german restaurant- pretty cheap and very yummy! We both had pizzas- which are not like our pizzas. First off they are not stingy on the toppings and second their toppings are...different. Mine for instance had whole banana peppers, whole-pits included-black olives, salami instead of peperoni, and tons of mushrooms (Matt gagged). After we ate they brought us each a shot of Ouzo (disgusting!!!) and we think they were trying to tell us it would settle our stomachs after the pizza....no idea. Yeah no english there. But yeah right! Ouzo is black licorice flavored and like 40% and it burns even your lips when it touches it!! And you taste it for the next hour- no lie. I only drank like half the shot and Matt just touched it to his lips and said no way. LoL.

Sunday we did church and Sunday school then we drove to Bamberg to check out their PX. More clothes but other than that its the same. Pretty post though. Last night we grilled steaks, onions, and zucchinis and I had made some pasta and it was AMAZING. I don't even really care for steak but this was unbelievable...even the fatty parts were delicious- and that usually gags me! Also discovered zucchini is great right on the grill- toast it all around and mmm mmmm mmmmm! Afterwards we watched Eragon- lame! so cheesy- and that's about it.

So you've got caught up with the Barr's. Sorry I haven't been online lately, I've been too obsessed with Gilmore Girls seasons 6 and 7 (last one!) =-( Its going to feel like I'm losing a best friend when this is over...Rory and Lorelai keep me company lol and Rory makes me think of Adri...aww now I'm REALLY sad!!!!!

Exciting News!

So I had a meeting with the principal today and I realized how scatterbrained she is! She had actually forgotten she had asked for the meeting!! But luckily she was there and not busy so we talked briefly. Turns out there was someone else wanting to student teach but that person did not have an education degree. Sooo they said they would take me on instead =-) She introduced me to a 2nd grade teacher that I would be with and she is an older teacher and very nice. She seemed alot like me- a little bit of old school teaching but mostly newer techniques. She uses the guided reading method and said she likes hands on activities. Sounds like her math and social studies are more teacher directed but she doesn't mind my doing collaborative lessons. She also explained more about DoDS standards and standardized testing. We also talked about my coming in and volunteering this semester to get familiar with the class and schedule to make student teaching easier. Afterwards I went back to wrap up with the principal who said that I would also be in a fourth grade classroom with a young "great" teacher (but I guess I can't- UTT wants you to do half time in a preK-1 and half with 2-4). I asked about the volunteering and possibly substituting and she jumped on the idea! She said she would definitely hire me and gave me an application and I gave her my transcript and resume!

After this meeting I went back home and found an email from UTT explaining that I would need a university person to supervise me. So I called the University of Phoenix rep because I hadn't gotten an email back. She basically told me it was useless and I wasn't the first by many to ask about student teaching supervisors. She said there was no one in Europe really. Well that wasn't working so I called the CTC rep here in Schweinfurt because CTC has an associates program in education. They gave me the 2 professors phone numbers. One professor said she works full time but that she knew of a couple of people at Schweinfurt Elem. who were qualified to supervise. She had me email her and she said she would talk to them and email me back. Now when I first got to the school today the principal asked about who would be supervising. She said they had people who could but that she didn't think DoDEA would "take on that responsibility." So I don't know if that means they can or what...The other professor didn't answer.

After all this I called UTT to inform them of this dilema. I also told her what the principal mentioned. She said this is all new territory and we were all learning together. Soo she has to talk to the Interim Director of the School of Education to see if they can allow another teacher to supervise me. She said normally they don't allow that because it's a conflict of interest but under these circumstances...I'm going to email the principals at the middle and high school levels to see if they have anyone qualified...maybe that would be "more acceptable." *sigh* But I did get all the information I've been lacking about student teaching and the forms so at least I have something to work on.

But if anything I got a subbing job! All I can do is give this up to God. He knows what I need. The principal said to get that sub application back to her and that I could probably get started next week so I am taking the application in to her tomorrow morning. I also am going to ask about a supervisor. Oo Matt and I are also getting our passports tomorrow so soon we can finally travel!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will get to take my TExES testings here in Schweinfurt!!!!!!!!! Those are my certification tests for teaching. Just got off the phone with the coordinator (former Army wife who lived 11 years in Germany) and it'll take like 6weeks to get everything set up but I get to take the tests in like November!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who knew I could be so happy to find out I get to take 2 tests in one week?!?! I didn't think it was possible!!

PS Matt lost the game =-( Refs really are soooo strict here!

Spiderman or Batman?

Well we had our first bbq this last weekend. Not the huge success I was hoping for thanks to the downpour! The Barretos, Kara and her 3 daughters, and a single soldier named Harris came though and we had a good time. Ended pretty early (about 9pm) and my husband was in bed shortly after lol. Well now we know to plan better for the next one...which will probably be this weekend (here or the Barreto's not sure yet)! Other than the rain we had until Sunday it was sooo nice and chilly! Love love love fall weather!! Mainly because I love the fall fashions lol.

It was a four day weekend so Matt had off Monday but all we did was go to the gym then the PX so he could buy some jeans. Man we are exciting! Wish we could have GONE somewhere but his classes Sat-Mon nights are cramping the traveling bug! =-(

Good news: Heard back from the principal FINALLY!! She and I are meeting on Monday to discuss student teaching. She said it should be possible and they've done it in the past she just needs to know my requirements. Now I can't get UTT to write me back to confirm everything. Watch- UTT is going to be the reason this falls through. Ugh. Dumb school! (jk I loved it but sometimes the education department...) So please please please prayer requests for that one!

Well since I'm in limbo again with student teaching that put a short hault on the job hunt. If student teaching doesn't work out I'll still apply places but if nothing comes along I may be back in TX for the spring...

Today had my first PWOC meeting. Not what I was expecting but good none-the-less. I don't know if Matt and I will go to the bible studies on Wednesday nights. When he's not working late he's just tired and I don't blame him...I like my evenings at home as well! I think between PWOC Wednesday mornings, church, and Sunday school- we're not going to go to hell hahaha.

Tomorrow Matt has another game so wish him luck. Nothing much else going on here until my meeting with the principal Monday... Have a great rest of the week yall!

Tuesday

Today was Matt's first flag football game. It was supposed to be his company but not enough players so its a battalion team. They won! Pretty good game towards the end. I love watching sports in person especially when I know the person/people playing!

The weather was cold Saturday-Monday but today it was back to hot (it cooled off about 7pm though when it was about to rain). Our days are shortening up as well. It was sunlight until 1030pm when we first got here and its already down to 830pm! Can't wait for the Fall weather though. It's my fave!

The moving company came today to get our boxes off of our porch so we can finally have a bbq this weekend! It's a four day weekend so we'll bbq Friday since Matt has classes Sat-Mon.

Nothing much to report on for the time being. PWOC bbq and bible study tomorrow night. As always- just living. Hoping to get that resume finished tomorrow!!! I need to get MOTIVATED!!!
