Wall Stickers

So I've been hunting and hunting for the perfect "Cartoony" underwater wall stickers. I found the PERFECT thing except it's not a wall sticker- its a paint by numbers...neither of us is crazy about that. Plus it would be very expensive to buy all the paint needed! Here's what it looks like:

We also found a more realistic wall mural that goes on like wall paper. Not crazy about that either (never done wall paper) plus it's not as cartoony-like but it may be all we can come up with!

www.rosenberryrooms.com

If you see anything while you're out and about (Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, etc) keep your eyes peeled for me! I really want the larger than life cartoony fish and sea plants! I've even considered buying the Finding Nemo and Spongebob stickers and just not using the actual character stickers!

Hospital 2

Well the final verdict. A nice cardio dr came to talk to me and explain what was going on. He said my atria was slightly larger than normal but that is probably because of my body size right now. He said this is NOTHING to worry about. The EKG was able to detect a few extra beats (so my heart wasn't skipping- I was feeling extra beats) and again he said we all have that. He said the amount he saw was normal for any person but that since I'm pregnant right now I'm more attuned to my body so that's why I feel them. I still don't think what happened Monday was normal but it doesn't sound like it's going to hurt me. The shortness of breath he said is normal because my diaphragm is being squished (they showed me on the heart u/s) by my uterus so that's normal as well. Overall everything is good. I told him my mom and grandma forced me to go to the Dr to get it checked out and he said that "yes old people are like that. they are quick to go to the hospital!" hahahahahahhaha (sorry- his words not mine!) They did a final u/s of Roman as well and the little booger was just a squirming around. The tech said "Wow he is really kicking Mommy!" I said you're telling me! He's been SOO active lately! He's partyin it up in there as I type this. So Keeley was right and everything is ok :-) See- I'm still the healthy child!! ;-)

Hospital

So another reason to despise Germany. Hospitals. They are so quick to admit you here and keep you even when it's a waste of time. Ok I'll start from the beginning.

I mentioned before that my heart has been skipping beats here and there and has slowly gotten worse (meaning it's doing it more often and harder). The Dr. told me if became unbearable to call. Yesterday I was feeling pretty good all day but around 4-4:30pm while working on the classroom I started getting really tired and dizzy. I thought it was due to lack of sugary food (I hate the school food that day- chicken and brocoli)so I left at about 5pm and drove home. I was really shakey and just sooo tired (and it happened so quickly!) that Matt had me eat a banana and drink a coke. That didn't help and while I was eating dinner my heart kept skipping beats repeatedly and this time it was causing me to cough and making it hard to catch my breath in between the skipping. After we ate I had Matt go get my Mutterpass (basically it's your hospital records of the pregnancy)and I called the 24hr nurse. She didn't speak English. Funnnn. I tried to explain that my heart would go boom boom- stop-boom-stop,etc and she basically said I could come tomorrow and see Dr. Heinrich or come in that night and get checked out. During this conversation I really started not being able to breathe so we said we'd be right there. Well then Matt ran around like a madman throwing on clothes and putting away dinner (all while cussing the whole time- he doesn't handle stress well lol). I really did NOT want to come because I had learned from friend's experiences that they are quick to admit you and then make you sit around.

Well on the ride to the hospital my heart slowed down (of course) but we figured we were already there might as well see the Doc. In her office I just kept getting so short of breath walking from the bed to the bathroom, etc. She felt my pulse and could feel what I was talking about (although I didn't have any major skips) so she hooked me up to a machine to watch for contractions (none) and did an u/s. Everything on Roman looks normal and fluids are all good. Phew! So she sent me up to the cardiac ER (the German hospitals divide ERs on every floor depending on what's your problem). There I met the rudest man ever and then was put on a bed in the hall right by the nurses station and ambulance doors (where people were coming and going) and had my bra taken off and my chest exposed to the world so they could to the EKG. She does it for 10 secs and says it looks wonderful and then he proceeds to question me like I'm faking it (of course- another reason I hate Drs. and hospitals. They never believe you so what's the point??) then he called the Dr. and I guess they decided I need a 24hr EKG since my heart didn't skip in the 10second one. Go figure. They also wanted to do an ultrasound on my heart. I asked if I could come back tomorrow to do it and he told me no. So back down to the maternity clinic to get my admit papers then up to the 7th floor- my home for the night.

This literally felt like a prison. I know that people on bedrest say that and I'm sure after 3 months anywhere- even a hospital room that's closer to a hotel suite- is like prison but no this room was literally. like. prison. My bed was metal, you get the thinnest, shortest blanket and the pillow was as flat as the blanket! The walls are blank and gross and it's just depressing. Plus my cell mate was an old lady who even though said she could speak English did not speak a word to me. Then she proceeded to snore louder than my grandfather all night. Matt was very upset they wouldn't let him stay but I knew he'd be happier at home anyways. He's terrified of hospitals (shhh don't tell him I told you so). Well this morning I woke up at 7am to call the sub I work with and tell her I wouldn't be in and outside the window (ok yes I got a window- I guess it wasn't JUST like prison)all you could see was white. THe fog was so thick it was scary. I thought I had woken up in a nightmare and the vampires or zombies were going to appear at any minute! Or the evil nurse was going to come in and sedate me and lock me up (it doesn't help that everyone who works here wears all white like mental hospitals!) Anyways I just laid around because I didn't want to turn on the tv and bother the old lady (plus its in German anyways). The Dr. came about 8am and told me what tests they were doing (thanks- already knew that). They also took my blood pressure and she said it was 96/260 and she asked if I normally had this and I said no. I don't know if she misread me the number or what because that sounds ridiculous. Then finally at about 8:30 I got my breakfast. Here's another prison comparison. I got to german rolls which if you've never had one- they are the HARDEST rocks- I mean rolls- you've ever tasted! Along with these wonderful rocks I got a package of butter and a cup of coffee (guess the Germans don't worry about caffenine and pregnancy). My cell mate on the other hand got a rock, a thick slice of cheese, some kind of oatmealy thing, and a jug of milk. Oh and jelly for her rock. What's with that?? I'm eating for two but this old lady who probably weighs 80lbs gets the feast?? Another awkward moment of eating across from each other at our table finally ended and my savior, a sweet nurse who's husband is military, came and told me they were releasing me from maximum security and moving down with the less restricted inmates. On the walk down to the elevator and to my new room (On the maternity floor- MUCH MUCH MUCH more cheerful!!!) and I could barely breathe. I am now in the maternity wing and my roommate is nice and also still pregnant. Our room has color and my bed is less prison like. I know I sound like a big baby but compared to the one other time I've been in the hospital- and the numerous hospitals I've visited people in, this place is just ridiculous.

So now I'm just sitting around. Different Dr. came in and repeated the same thing the other Dr. had said about the tests they were going to run- except she could barely speak English so it was interesting. I asked when they would do the tests and she said the cardio people would come get me. Joy. They also retested my blood pressure and it was 96/126 and I felt exactlty the same so I think the lady earlier just mistranslated the numbers! Matt brought me clean PJs and my laptop (and my ever faithful Gilmore Girls) but he was bored out of his mind. You can only stare at each other for so long lol. So I sent him back to work and he will come back later with Popeyes (hey-it's for Roman!) and entertainment for himself so he can stay until they kick him out. My friend Jen also said she'd come by this afternoon. My friend Kara and two of her girls also stopped by briefly as a surprise. Her daughter had to get xrays so she decided to stop in on me so that was awesome. However when she left I felt more lonely. Last time (and only time) I was in the hospital I had my godmother, my ex-roomie Rachael, and my other ex-roomie Tara stay with me the whole time (seriously! one night all three stayed and the girls slept on a rollaway and my godmother on the recliner!) and people stopped by all the time and brought chocolate shakes. Even the VP of my university visited! I also had my unlimited minutes and could call and chat with everyone I wanted. Needless to say this time is quite different. Matt said we're treating this as a trial run for the birth but I think that'll be a lot different. After all- once I have my baby boy I won't care if I get visitors LOL. Well guess I'll update again after something finally happens!

Telling the Kids

So this past week I told my two classes. On Monday I told my first graders and I let them try and guess my secret. No one had a clue until I said I had something in common with a little girl's mom- then even she didn't get it! But her friend did and she guessed "You're having a baby?" It was so cute. Then we did a bar graph (hey- great way to integrate the math!) of what the kids thought the sex of the baby was (predictions!). Half the kids (one was absent) thought it was a boy and half a girl. They were excited about it being a boy and loved his name. Other than that they didn't ask any questions which was a relief. I've been putting this off because I was scared of the questions I would get. Instead we talked about how Mrs. Barr needs to be able to stay calm and the baby can hear inside her belly so the class has to stay quiet. They agreed earnestly- but it didn't last too long lol.

Telling the 3rd graders was funnier. We played 18 questions- each kid got to ask one question. They didn't even come CLOSE! Finally my mentor teacher had to ask "Is it something about your FAMILY?" THEN several kids went Ohhhhhh and hands shot up into the air. So now they knew and we did the same thing- we guessed the gender. This time there were more girl guesses (wrong!) but they were still excited about it being a boy. Then they ALLLLLL proceeded to give me advice about little brothers and sisters (I told them several times I knew all about them since I have 5 but that didn't stop everyone's advice). Basically the hint I got was to only have one baby because little brothers and sisters are annoying lol. The funniest part was when I was leaving and several girls patted my belly. One girl patted it which made my fat jiggle (gross I know) and she was freaking out "Oh my God I saw the baby!! The baby moved when I touched Mrs. Barr's belly!!" I was dying trying not to laugh. I just agreed with her! Oh well poor girl. I told them when he really started kicking hard enough to feel I'd come back and let them touch. Again no awkward questions were asked- thank GOD but I did have a great response ready..."You know, that's a GREAT question for your Mom and Dad!!" :-D

Bedding

So I thought deciding on the name was hard!! With so many baby bedding options my mind feels like it's going to explode! Originally I wanted browns and blues if it was a boy and I wanted a quilt made (I've been looking at Etsy.com). I've found very few brown and blue beddings that I like (and no quilts) so I've started considering themes. Tell me what you think! Here goes:

This first one won't let me copy the picture but it's one that Grammy suggested in my blue and brown: Bananafish Latte

I googled Baby Bedding Brown and Blue and this was the first picture that came up!
This is what I was looking for in blue but I actually like it in green as well. I wanted a quilt like this and thought it'd be cute to add Roman's name or monogram to it somewhere. With the neutral bedding and color scheme I could later add animals or whatever to it when he's a toddler!

Matt's Favorite of course! Rock N Roll baby

The stars (and I can throw in a crescent moon) ;-) but what I like is that it's not your typical pale blue and yellow sky thing...

My friend Anna found this for me and it's the only blue and brown bedding I've liked- Thanks Anna!

These two are from my friend Morgan's nursery- I'm sure she won't mind- I like the rustic cowboy theme and dark reds and blues that she used.

And the last one. We don't really care for the bedding BUT we thought it'd be fun to go with blues and greens and paint the room like it's underwater- sort of like the 1yr old classroom at Grace ECC that I used to work at. Lots of coral and seaweed and bubbles and bright fishies! Then just add a little fishy touches here and there with accessories and voila!

Introducing Roman Mathew :0)

We had our 18 week ultrasound today and I think the Dr. enjoyed taking her time and torturing us! First off our appointment was at 3:30 so I got there at 3:10 (that way they can do all the tests beforehand and then usually I don't have to wait around) but today the Dr. had a C-section so she was running a little late. We finally saw her at 4:40pm and boy she looked tired but she still had a happy face for us. That impressed me. After we left though I heard her cheering with her midwife lol. Poor lady. Anyways poor lady then tortures us by checking EVERY POSSIBLE thing before telling us boy or girl! Head looks good, saw the brain, did the 4D of the front side of Roman and whew he was scary lookin!, checked heart- looks good but they will run thorough tests next time because of my brother's condition, umbilical cord is good, nice round tummy, good femur. When she showed the heart she said it was around 150 beats so I said "Oh it's a girl!" and she looked confused so I explained that the old wives tale said that 150 and higher meant girl and slower meant boy and she laughed and said "well you have 50/50 chance but we will see what I say it is" lol well as soon as she showed us between the legs I said "wow it's a boy!" There definitely is NOT a hamburger bun! He is alllll boy and he makes his Daddy proud :-)

As for Mommy everything is good. My iron is low which explains the exhaustion but an iron pill every day will fix that right up! I have to start monitoring my heart in the next month. Nothing serious it has just been skipping alot and it started out just once a day now it's increasing. Plus I'm extremely short of breath (like just from talking) and while that's normal later on not so much now- especially when I've only gained 6lbs. So I'm to keep track of when it does it and how much and if it gets especially uncomfortable before the next visit she said to come in otherwise our next visit we'll judge and see if I need further testing. So please just keep that in your prayers. :-)

Here are a few of the pictures for Nanna (Matt's Mommy- she FINALLY chose a name!) ;-) There's also a video of the ultrasound that Matt took with our camera.

Yes he is ALLLL boy and his Daddy is proud. "Dang son, put that thing away- you're gonna scare someone!!!" LOL my Dad is proud too I'm sure!

His pretty profile! This was printed on paper so quality is bad. In the video you can see his mouth moving and him head banging!

Such a shy baby!! Last time he hid his goodies and this time he hides his face! Don't know where he gets that from- Mommy and Daddy aren't shy!

Oh yeah first thing after the Dr. we bought clothes :-) We each chose an outfit set. Mine was this onesie, another onesie with an embroidered monkey and pants with a monkey head on the butt :-) See facebook for the others (and cute bibs!)

Daddy chose a 5 peice onesie set with all sports themes. One of them also said #1 Mom's Property :-)

****EDIT**** Sorry Nanna the video won't upload. You'll have to watch it at Aunt B's house :-( I tried twice!!!)
Our 18 week ultrasound. Our Dr is such a hoot- even after a long day of C-Sections! Watch carefully (you'll have to have your ear up to the speakers to hear) but you can see his profile and moving his mouth, headbanging, and rolling around!! My favorite part is the scary alien view! The Dr. was CRACKING UP! We're probably the only parents who make fun of our own kid lol

Pregnancy Brain

Well I wanted to post earlier (while I still remembered what I wanted to say) but my internet started acting up. Of course! Well I mentioned yesterday how annoying my pregnancy memory is but now it is officially dangerous. Yesterday I missed a meeting with my supervisor (I may or may not have already said that) so that was embarrassing. Yesterday I scrubbed my house and had lit candles to add to the homeiness at about 4pm...well at 5am I woke up to use the bathroom and as I came out of my room I wondered why it was brighter than normal. Hmm...turns out I left a candle on the dining room table burning!! I was so mad at myself and terrified thinking "what if" but thankful that nothing had happened (God was definitely watching us last night!!)

I think my depth perception and alertness has also been affected. Today I went to park at the comissary and I pulled in next to a Dodge Durango with giant mud tires.
*Let me stop right here and rant about how it annoys the HECK out of me that Americans come over here with these giant trucks/SUVs. You're in EUROPE for heaven's sake- did you not do your research and realize how tiny the streets and parking are?! So normally I avoid parking next to these vehicles because the spots here really are smaller than in the States. Plus for some even more annoying reason peope with these vehicles think they need two spots (or just can't figure out how to park in small spots- duh).*
Well spots were scarce so I sucked it up and pulled in next to this white dodge. I was crooked (well actually the Dodge was very crooked and over the line so I had to restraighten up) so I went to pull back out a little to straighten up and I heard the annoying sound of rubber on rubber. The Dodge's tires were cocked out to the right (apparently he didn't feel the need to straighten his tires) so my tires hit and rubbed his. I rolled down my window and looked and of course the tires were so big (thankfully) that nothing else hit- just tire on tire. That's why I mentioned it was white- my car is red so it would be easy to see if there was damage. He rolled his windows down too (yes he was sitting in the car waiting on a friend) and I told him that nothing happened it was tire on tire thank goodness and he laughed and said thanks and rolled his window back up. While I was gathering up my stuff to get out his friend came out and was getting in and he checked the dodge which I totally understand but then as they were pulling out the driver took a picture of my license plate and I could hear them laughing and the driver was saying "just as a precaution" over and over. Um I can't explain how this STILL annoys me. First off if you were really worried about it you would a) park better and b) gotten your lazy butt out of the car and checked it yourself. Second um what good is having a picture of my license plate? You didn't check your car and you drove off. No police were called, no reports were filed so what do you think you can do with my license plate? Say I did a "hit and run"?? Too bad it's your word against mine. Your friend can't count as a witness because he was in the commissary. I guess he could lie which also annoys me because I feel like that's what he's planning on doing since he took a picture of my license plate. Too bad I don't need a camera I actually managed to remember his license plate: SW SP1327 ;-) as he drove away laughing at me. *Sigh* my blood still boils at this if you couldn't tell.
For my pregnant or mommy friends share some stories about your pregnancy brain and what's happened to you before because of it!
